GREAT IMPORTANCE OF NIGERIAN PIDGIN ENGLISH.

Hello Readers,

I Sincerely love Nigerian Pidgin English. You know say Naija get different languages and na so our pidgin different but the main thing be say,we understand wetin we dey pass across.

Have You thought of the advantages of Nigerian Pidgin English and why it is important you learn to use it effectively??Most Families today prohibit speaking of pidgin, not knowing it's important and it is kind of a national identity especially in Diaspora.

Nigeria is made up of so many ethnic groups and languages.I found out that  Nigerian Pidgin English is a language Nigerians use when they travel abroad especially for a talk that maybe another English Speaker could hear if they speak the normal English Language. The Nigerian users of our pidgin at that time may not be natives of the three major tribes in Nigeria,so as to say,he should speak the Yoruba,Igbo or Hausa. So,they use our Pidgin for a private communication which is different from all other English speaking Country's Pidgin English.

Also,Nigerian Pidgin English, when used  by Nigerians,It tends to bring this informal bound you know.Sometimes,In Our Society today, when you go to some places, you need something from an individual or a group of people and you use the formal English in communication, you probably will not get what you actually want or may be Ignored outrightly. In that Situation, using the Nigerian Pidgin English is always the best because it brings this mutual communication even if the person is a stranger.

Nigerians who find themselves abroad also use Pidgin as a Brotherly Language of communication, though they may not be having an issue that should be said privately.

Nigerian Pidgin English is also like a Sign Language.I recently had a discussion with a frequently traveller. He told me of a particular time he was asked by a Foreigner if "Old Boy How Far naa" is a sign,he asked the Foreigner why he said so,the Foreigner said; "he noticed that when Black Men(Nigerians)meet they hail and definitely say "Old Boy How Far naa"... it feels like a cult's sign language"...The point here is that, you can see what is perceived and can now tell that The Nigerian Pidgin English used by Nigerians especially in Diaspora is a Sign Language. It signals "Naija Present"..

With these, you see the importance of using Nigerian Pidgin English and why all Nigerians should learn it perfectly using it in the right situation and the right occasion. An English Speaker who speaks the English language perfectly can never flop if he learns the Nigerian Pidgin English.

Nigerian Pidgin English is like our Lingua-Franca and so,it is important we perfect in it.

One Love Naija,One Love My People.

                                                                                                        Platinum Winnie.
